Sri Lanka's civil war: The history of the Tamil conflict

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) formed in 1976 and have spent the past 26 years engaged in a bitter battle for a homeland.

The guerilla army has been fighting for a separate Tamil state in Sri Lanka's north and east, arguing that they have been victims of discrimination under successive majority Buddhist Sinhalese governments. A million people have been displaced and tens of thousands of people have died in the conflict, in which the rebels have employed suicide bombings, assassinations, and massacres that have deepened ethnic tensions. Many countries consider LTTE a terrorist organisation, but both sides in the conflict have been accused by human rights groups of causing large-scale civilian casualties.

The Sri Lankan government has devoted as much as a quarter of the national budget to military spending. Sri Lanka's 3.2 million Tamils have close links to a larger population of Tamils in southern India who have lent financial support to the cause.

Repeated ceasefires have failed to hold and heavy fighting resumed in 2006. The government formally abandoned a six-year-old ceasefire at the beginning of 2008. Last year, the Sri Lankan army broke through rebel lines and drove the Tigers from many areas in the north that they had controlled for decades.

Independent journalists, foreign aid groups and diplomats have been almost entirely barred from the war zone, and reports from the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE have been impossible to verify.

No Royalties, And Cancelled Contract

Posted by: No Paid Royalties on 05/06/2009 06:01 AM

5-6-2009 No Royalties Paid I Raymond Taylor is a published author by AuthorHouse I received 3-4 royalties $2.44-4.78 back in 2004-2005 but from 2006-2009 no more royalties. My book Morbid Regions is on all web sites world wide with average sells of used and new books. I tell this to my publisher but they tell me those web sites are liars I even asked them to send me a copy of my original contract but they keep sending me different papers. Note AuthorHouse cancelled my book on 30 April, 2009 but my book is still active selling online all over the world. Is there a legal issue once the publisher terminates the contract but they continue to sell your book?
