VILLAGE OF BARKER, N.Y. (WIVB) - A man survived being struck by lightning while pumping gas.
Survivor William Hall said, "Everybody tells me I'm lucky, and I feel that way. I really do."
What started as a routine stop for gas, ended in a near death experience for William Hall Wednesday.
"Started pumping the gas, and I seen a very bright orange light, followed by a very bright white light, and then total darkness. I went out," said Hall.
Surveillance cameras at the K & K Food Mart captured the amazing video of a lightning bolt hitting the parking lot. A few minutes after Hall paid, you can see the flash outside.
Another camera caught Hall falling over after the bolt struck.
Chief Ross Annable from Barker Police said, "Pretty amazing, and pretty lucky that he's able to survive and walk away from it."
Hall was unconscious for about five minutes. He said he felt the current travel through him before he passed out.
"I was very numb, shaky. Hard to catch my breath. My heart was beating really rapid."
He went back Thursday to the gas station to finish filling up.
Amanda Lamb, K & K Mart Employee said, "That's pretty remarkable to see him here today, and I'm glad he's here with us to tell the story too."
Hall said every muscle in his body is sore, and he has some small blisters on his elbow. Other than that, he feels fine.
