KUWAIT: Hundreds of children with disabilities gathered at the beach in Salmiya next to the McDonalds restaurant yesterday morning to participate in a beach-cleaning campaign. The event was organized by the Al-Kharafi Activity Kids Center and was sponsored by McDonalds. The campaign's slogan was "100 bags can make a difference." The main purpose of the campaign was to rid the marine environment of trash that had spread along the beach.

The activity also aimed to increase the public's general awareness about the dangers associated with pollution on coastal and marine environments. It also aimed to teach children with disabilities about volunteer work and serving society by adopting good habits that include keeping the environment they live in clean.

McDonalds also provided participants and their families with 200 meals, T-shirts, caps, protective gloves and garbage bags to collect the trash with the help of the cleaning laborers.

The campaign began at about 10:00 am and lasted until 1:30 pm. "I would like to thank all those who participated in this campaign and helped make it successful, including the disabled children, their families, the volunteers, McDonalds' staff, Al-Kharafi Center's staff, Medical Emergency Services and others. It was important to unite the efforts of all of us to organize this event, which spreads awareness in our society.

Participating in such activities is the main part of our responsibility to improve environmental awareness," said Rozam Karam, PR Officer of Al-Kharafi Activity Kids Center during her welcome speech.
The participants then moved to the beach and began collecting the waste that previous visitors left there. They placed the trash in garbage bags before hauling them to garbage containers.

After the cleaning, the participants enjoyed a McDonalds lunch in a pleasant atmosphere that was free from trash and garbage. The lunch was followed by various entertainment activities for the children, such as singing, drawing and many other activities and competitions.

The campaign was part of activities that Al-Kharafi Activity Kids Center holds. The center is an authority that cares about disabled affairs in Kuwait, providing them with entertaining and educational activities in a safe environment.

The beach cleaning campaign is also part of the McDonalds social responsibility program which is held annually. This event marks the first time the activity was held in cooperation with the Al-Kharafi Activity Kids Center. McDonalds also holds an activity once a month for disabled children.
