A daylong sweep of four residences Thursday by the Frederick County Narcotics Task Force resulted in five arrests, the seizure of drugs and guns and the discovery of an indoor marijuana growing operation, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.
The searches in Frederick and Ijamsville led to five arrests: Donzell Shaw Jr., 23, Renale C. Smith, 25, Brian Patrick Stueve, 39, Tammy Dawn Stueve, 35, and Jason E. Krantz, 28, all of Frederick, Cpl. Jennifer Bailey said.
Task force members, made up of nearly two dozen sheriff's deputies and Maryland State Police troopers, met at 8 a.m. Thursday before conducting the first search at 2434 Hunt Wood Court in Frederick, Bailey said.
That search led to others on Firestone Drive in Ijamsville, at 6788 Wood Duck Court in Frederick and at 5040B Witmer Lane in Frederick, deputies said.
The operation wrapped up about 3 a.m. Friday.
The sweep was considered significant and successful for the task force as each warrant ended with felony arrests.
"The unit took many things off the street," Bailey said.
Shaw and Smith were arrested after the search at 2434 Hunt Wood Court, where investigators recovered a bag containing 13 wrapped rocks of crack cocaine, 20 bags of marijuana weighing 22.5 grams, a bag of marijuana weighing 20.6 grams, five scales and an unloaded .45-caliber handgun with its serial number scratched off.
The sheriff's office does not provide the street values for drugs, but according to websites for crack cocaine addiction treatment, a one quarter gram rock sells for about $40 while a one tenth gram rock sells for between $10 and $25.
Shaw faces distribution and possession charges involving crack cocaine and marijuana; he also is charged with possessing drug paraphernalia and a firearm in a drug-trafficking crime, deputies said.
On Friday evening, Shaw was being held in the Frederick County Adult Detention Center in lieu of $125,000 bail, authorities said.
Smith faces the same charges, excluding the weapons charge, deputies said. She was released after posting $25,000 bail, authorities said.
The Stueves, siblings, were arrested after the search at 6788 Wood Duck Court, where investigators found about 80 grams of marijuana packaged in numerous bags, scales, drug paraphernalia and a Sentry key that opened a safe at the Ijamsville residence, deputies said.
Inside the safe, detectives found two bags of compressed marijuana, weighing a total of about 1 1/4 pounds, and a bottle of liquid Diazepam, a narcotic. A Kia Rio also was seized.
According to the Office of National Drug Control Policy, a pound of marijuana in 2006 was valued at about $4,000.
The Stueves were charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, deputies said.
Initially held in lieu of bail, they were released on personal recognizance after bail review hearings, authorities said.
Krantz was arrested after the search at 5040B Witmer Lane, where investigators found the indoor marijuana growing operation, deputies said.
Inside Krantz's residence, investigators found eight marijuana plants, three to five pounds of marijuana, a police ballistic vest, four handguns, one rifle, about $3,200 in cash and a variety of drug paraphernalia, deputies said.
Facing drug-related charges as a result of the search, Krantz initially was taken into custody on five warrants, including one for first-degree domestic assault, deputies said.
Krantz was released from jail after posting $25,000 bail, authorities said.
Animal Control officers assisted with the search of Krantz's residence.
