MILLER COUNTY - Strap on the running shoes and pull out the picnic basket, it's time for the 10th annual Independence Day Celebration at the Eldon Airpark.

From the crack of dawn until the sun goes down, it's the lake largest organized event to mark the patriotic holiday.

Beginning with an early morning 5K to the fireworks show held at dusk, the city sponsored festival offers a day full of family activities.

Accompanied by the sounds of music, the fireworks show is by far the most popular event of the day, but don't miss out on what else they've got planned, organizer Sabrina Henson said.

Kids will have more than enough to do with the various contests and entertainment that will be set up at the park. Cool off for the three-hour, free swim offered at the city pool in the afternoon.

Closing out the day, several thousand people will line the streets in their cars or show up early for the perfect spot to lay down a blanket and watch the skies light up with fireworks.

The display typically lasts at least 30 minutes.

If rained out, all events will be moved to Friday except for the 5K.
